Chapter One, Part Two of Forgotten by Marti York

Home. Where I am now. Apparently, I have a lot of money because my New York City apartment is extremely nice. Not huge, but not small either. It’s in Greenwich Village, near Washington Square Park and New York University. It’s weird that I remember this area but still can’t remember my past. Benny showed me evidence proving who he is, who I am, and what our relationship is.  He’s also the one who told me about the scars on my face. Turns out, he’s my literary agent, and I’m a well-off author.  It also turns out that Benny and I are good friends.

The doorbell rings, and I know that’s him. He called my cell phone thirty minutes ago and said he was on his way with a security specialist. I called down to the doorman and told him to let Benny and his guest come up when they arrived.

I move to the door, check the peephole just to be sure, and swing the door open.

“Hey,” Benny says and leans in to kiss my cheek. He’s been nice to me the last few days, so I let him.

He steps into my apartment. A man follows him inside. The same man who was with Benny in my hospital room right after I woke up. He is tall and broad and silent just the way he was in my hospital room. The sight of him still gives me a jolt, but there’s no longer any fear.

“This is Peter Raven,” Benny says. “He’s the security specialist I told you about.”

Peter Raven holds out his hand, and I shake it. “Interesting last name, Mr. Raven.”

“You can call me Peter,” he says as he releases my hand. “And I could say the same thing about you, Ms. Copper.”

“I’m still trying to get used to Copper. It is a strange name, so I think I prefer Molly.”

“Molly it is.”

“I made coffee if either of you would like some.”

“None for me,” Benny says. “I’ve got to get going. I just wanted to make the introductions before I leave you two to it.”

“Thanks for everything, Benny. I appreciate your patience.”

“You know it’s my pleasure, Molly.”

“Well, I’ve forgotten that I know that, but even if I never remember, I’m learning very quickly. Thank you again.”

He kisses my cheek again before shaking Peter’s hand. “Take good care of her.”

“Don’t worry.” Peter’s gaze snags mine. “I will.”

My heart races even as my face heats. He’s very good-looking. I glance down, ripping my gaze from his as I inhale a deep breath.

Benny opens my front door. “I’ll get out of your hair then.”

He’s gone before I can raise my eyes from the floor, and I’m alone with Peter Raven who made me blush only a moment ago.
